At Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School all students are academically, socially and emotionally supported in an endeavour to assist each individual to fulfill their potential.

Daily 5

This literacy program is a structure that helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing and working independently that will lead to a lifetime of literacy independence.

Targeted Programs

Learning Support is directed towards children within Targeted Programs. These programs are designed for individuals, pairs or small groups to work on the challenges presented to them in literacy and numeracy. Children move in and out of these programs as their learning develops.

English as Another Language (EAL)

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School is a multi cultural school where many students do not speak English at home. These students are catered for within classroom differentiation and specific English classes.

We also have access to many outside support systems, such as Colony 47 and the Phoenix Centre, which can assist children and families with challenging situations.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

‘Positive Behaviour Support’ (PBS) is a program that focuses strongly on a whole-school approach to behaviour management.  PBS assists the school to generate strategies and systems for developing a positive, effective and caring school environment.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School is identified as a PBS school in the following ways;

*Behavioural expectations are clearly displayed;

*Students are able to state the behavioural expectations;

*Students are recognised for appropriate behaviour;

*All staff know the expectations;

Our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Relationships are known as the 3Rs.  They are explicitly taught and displayed throughout the school.  The teaching matrix maps out how these expectations look in all areas of school life.  This matrix is referred to often to teach, practise and revise expected behaviour at Immaculate Heart.
